You go on taking care of your blog, you struggle to bring traffic to it, you spend hours upon hours of your precious time to produce remarkable content…and you see no results.
At least not appreciable results.
I have to reveal you something
Recently I’ve been working A LOT on PPC. I’ve always been fascinated by it, but I’ve never had a real chance to get serious results by it.
A while ago things changed because I finally found a good mentor to learn PPC.
At the beginning I invested a lot of money without seeing a return. Zero. Nothing. Nada.
But after a short time, earning started to exceed my expense and the ROI has become really interesting.
With blogging there’s no chance that you would start getting profits that soon. The main reason is that you’ll get all the traffic you want if you are willing to pay for it. Simple.
Well, there’s another key reason why you can start getting a profit from it really ealy on: process is totally straightforward.
You buy some traffic which you send to a landing page. That’s it.
You either profit from this or you don’t.
(you can actually use PPC for more complex “money making machines”, but I’ll just speak about the simplest one here)
This means that you can just work on two things to increase your profit: getting cheaper traffic or higher conversion rate.
You have two things on which you can work. TWO THINGS!
Tell me it’s not simple! It’s not easy (in fact it’s hard, otherwise everyone would make a 6 figure a month by it), but it’s simple. You have to work on just two things.
This made me compare PPC with blogging.
To rise a great blog you have to work on an endless list of things: get more traffic, increase conversion rate, write blog posts, engage your readers, etc…
And it goes even deeper than that: you drive traffic to your blog by guest posting, YouTube, SlideShare, Facebook, etc…
Wow! These are lots of things.
The lack of a simple structure is the real problem.
What most people do (and I did it, a lot) is to switch from one thing to another at the speed of the light.
At the beginning they focus on writing great blog posts, but then they see no traffic, so they focus on driving traffic.
Maybe they start by writing comments on other blogs…after 4 days writing blog posts they see no traffic, so they think “commenting on other blogs won’t bring me traffic, I should try something else”. So they try another source of traffic…and so on. You got the point.
Want to know one secret: there people who drives traffic to their blog by commenting on other blogs, so it’s not that to be wrong. For every thing you try, and don’t succeed there’s at least one other person who is extremely successful.
It’s not the process, it’s you. You decide to succeed with something, and you decide not to succeed with something.
Focus on one thing, and do it extremely well. Do it until you succeed with it.
Commit yourself to trying that one thing until you succeed with it.
No excuses.
Do you know how did I reach success with my first blog?
I just wrote. I wrote blog post after blog post. Almost no form of promotion except putting a very few videos on YouTube and sharing my posts on Facebook.
I wrote and wrote and wrote. The organic traffic to my blog grew and grew and grew.
I just did that, but I committed myself to do that until I have reached success.
Now, you don’t need to focus necessarily on traffic. You have to focus on what you need the most.
Whatever it driving traffic, improving your conversion rate, building your reputation or else.
Commit yourself to just that one thing until you succeed.
Then come back, and say to me “Mauro, I succeeded, thank you!”
Mauro D’Andrea
PS: Blogging is great, and it’s a wonderful way to get serious profit while helping people. The fact that is a complex thing is both a bad thing (because it may deceive you), and a good thing (because you have many ways to take advantage of it).
